BREAKING CHAINS: Rakshatra Foundation Rescues Four Minors from Child Labour
A STEP TOWARDS A BRIGHTER FUTURE:
In a world where childhood should be filled with dreams, play, and education, many children are instead burdened with responsibilities far beyond their years. Rakshatra Foundation, in its continued fight against child labour and exploitation, recently took decisive action to rescue four minors who were trapped in a cycle of forced labour in Malwani, Malad West, Mumbai.
With the support of Malwani Police Station and in collaboration with JAPU (Juvenile Aid Police Unit) and Bal Kaamgar Vibhag, these young lives were liberated from conditions that denied them their fundamental rights. This operation is a stark reminder that child labour remains a harsh reality, but it is also proof that together, we can make a difference.
THE RESCUE MISSION: A JOINT EFFORT FOR JUSTICE:
Following a tip-off and thorough investigation, “Mr. Ranjit Menezes” founder of Rakshatra Foundation approached “Mr. Sunil Vithal Rathod” – a Government Labour Officer from P Ward. Both the teams with the help of JAPU team headed by “PI Kadam” and Malwani Police Station raided the unit based in Rathod Village, Marve Road, Malwani, Malad West, on a Thursday, 27th February 2025. All the teams worked closely to ensure the children’s safe rescue and rehabilitation.
Upon rescue, the children were immediately given medical assistance, emotional counselling, and a safe shelter. They were assessed by professionals to understand their physical and psychological needs, ensuring a smooth transition into a life of safety and care.
AFTERCARE & FAMILY REINTEGRATION:
Rescuing a child from labour is just the first step—the real challenge begins with rehabilitation and reintegration. Rakshatra Foundation is committed to ensuring these children do not fall back into the cycle of exploitation.
- Temporary Shelter & Counselling: The rescued minors were placed in a safe shelter where they received emotional support, healthcare, and basic education.
- Education & Skill Development: Understanding the importance of education in breaking the cycle of child labour, Rakshatra Foundation, in collaboration with child welfare authorities, has ensured these children will be enrolled in schools.
- Family Reunification in Bihar: After verifying family backgrounds and conducting safety assessments, these children will be reunited with their families in Bihar, ensuring they return to a stable environment. Our team, along with local organizations, will monitor their well-being and education progress to prevent any possibility of re-exploitation.
- Ongoing Support: The foundation will continue working with local child protection agencies to offer long-term assistance, including vocational training as they grow older, to empower them with future opportunities.
WHY CHILD LABOR MUST END NOW
- India has over 10 million child labourers, despite stringent laws prohibiting child exploitation.
- Every child deserves education, not exploitation—yet many are forced to work instead of attending school.
- Rescue is just the first step—rehabilitation and reintegration are essential for long-term impact.
At Rakshatra Foundation, we don’t just rescue children; we ensure they have a future filled with hope, education, and opportunity.
